What's a strip diagram?

So, what is a strip diagram? For some of us, this can be new.

A strip diagram is a tool designed to help students solve word problems. Some people refer to it as a tape diagram and we've heard of Singapore Bar Model.

To make things easy, I am going to call it a strip diagram. It's a visual approach to help students solve difficult word problems and look at relationships between the numbers given.

My students in intervention struggle with word problems. Using the strip diagram plus questioning strategies has helped them tremendously.

Here's a resource that you can find at my store. There are lots of different word problem situations and it's scaffolded. You can use these task cards in many ways- small group, intervention, special education, homework practice, centers, test prep, games, or warm-up. Hope this helps you!
